15. January 1582

The Polish troops had conquered though the Latvian area from the end of 1578, but they did not expand the military activity to Estonia, but fought instead in Russia. In 1581 the king Stefan Bathoryl could conquer Velikije Luki, thereafter Pskov was started to be besieged.

By the mediation of the pope's ambassador Antonio Possevino the Russians and Polish concluded truce of Jam Zapolski in Pskov at the beginning of 1582, by which the strongholds remained in the hands of the Russians on the Estonian area fell into the hands of the Polish.

Therefore the Swedes had to stop the besiege of Pärnu and Põltsamaa and the separation line of the Swedish-Polish possessions started to go through Estonia by becoming later the province border which remained valid up to 1917.
