Referendum on the draft Constitution of the fifth Riigikogu

Sulge

In a situation where the popularity of the Riigikogu was extremely low due to the haggling, on 10-12 June 1933, the referendum on the new draft Constitution of the Riigikogu took place.

This time, people decisively rejected the draft: the percentage of opposing votes was as high as 67%. Now, the Riigikogu had nothing else to do than to put the Constitution project of the participants in the Estonian War of Independence on a new referendum in October 1933.

Regardless of the proposition by the members of the Central Party, the Riigikogu did not want to break up and continued its activity. This further increased the discontent with the Estonian politicians.
